Getting used to the new digs August 4, 2010

Posted by mareserinitatis in Uncategorized.

I’ve been here a couple weeks now, and I think I like WordPress. I like the interface, the editor, the stats page, etc. There are still things I don’t like, such as that I can’t always draw upon my nifty collection of icons for additional humor value and that I apparently had a chunk of my readership decide not to make the move over to this blog.

I must be significantly more visible because I now have been dealing with tons of spam comments. I know the LJ ads really sucked, but I think they drove away all the spammers.

I’ve really been enjoying WordPress myself. I love the interface, it’s easily the best I’ve used in any of the blog sites. I’ve only had a handful of spam comments, and all of those were easy to permanently delete before they ever made it onto my blog.

I think LJ is still pretty good, and I think it really excels at community and friend-orienting blogging (or journaling). But WordPress has a lot of nifty features that I like (such as scheduling posts in advance). The environment is more…sterile? serious? Not sure…but I guess that’s why I haven’t given up on my LJ altogether.

Definitely appreciating the spam filter!

Yeah, spam can be a hassle. They’re pretty good about it with Akismet which I’m assuming you’re using but the bots out there still target WordPress sites. I appreciate the move though! Sorry more people didn’t make the jump.

I think some of it is the fact that I have so much more content and time on the other blog. But there’s the other issue that a lot of my content doesn’t appeal to the majority of people.

Yes, the bots are obnoxious. I had like 50 spam comments just yesterday. If it weren’t for Akismet, I’m not sure what I’d do. I probably have had less than 50 spam comments the entire time I was on LJ.
