The Queen has signed onto marriage equality in England and Wales.

I'm not sure who came up with this image (I'd love to give credit), but I adore it.

A reference to the Queen and gay people obviously leads me to think of Freddie Mercury.  (Am I right?)

I imagine he would be happy about the pronouncement, so to celebrate, I’m posting Queen videos today.

I did an informal poll on Facebook and Twitter of my friends’ favorite Queen songs.  I got about 18 responses with 20 songs, but there were two that were named repeatedly.

Everyone, of course, loves, Bohemian Rhapsody:

Although there were some people who prefer the Muppet version:

The definite favorite, however, was Under Pressure:

Personally, though, I was a bit disappointed that no one else shared my personal favorite:

Rihanna has it wrong! June 27, 2013

I heard Rihanna’s song “Diamonds” for the first time yesterday.  (I know…I live under a rock…though, unfortunately, not that kind of rock or I’d be rich.)  I rather liked the song except for the line that keeps popping up: “Shine bright like a diamond.”  Something about the way it sounds doesn’t quite fit the rest of the song for me, or maybe it was to repetitive.  But what really bugged me is that, every time I heard it, all I could think was, “Diamonds don’t shine!  They refract!”  I suppose refraction doesn’t sell as much pop music, though.  I will suggest, however, if any of you are aces at making music remixes, that the song would benefit from more accurate physics.  (Maybe she should take some notes from Britney Spears?)

Anyway, I hate it when science gets in the way of enjoying music.  When it’s not wrong, though, it can sometimes make the music more enjoyable.

Friday fun: Falling in love with physics May 11, 2012

I know this may sound strange, but I get a little giddy every time I hear a song that uses physics (or the lack thereof) to describe how people feel when falling in love.  In fact, I’ve started making a collection of such songs.  I’m going to put a couple of my favorites below, but if you have any others you’d like to suggest, please do so!

So why do you suppose physics is such a good way to describe it?  I guess that, personally, I’m not poetic enough to appreciate the similarities.  However, if you fall in love with someone who likes physics, there are multitudes of bad pickup lines that can be generated which will make that person laugh.  So…if you have any bad physics-related pick-up lines, I’d love to hear those, too.
